How to Cut Polycarbonate Sheets
Polycarbonate sheets come in all different sizes and a thickness of your choice. So when it comes to your individual projects you'll often need to cut them down to size. They are manufactured with multi-wall chambers that mean they are incredibly durable, but are still lightweight and maintain a sleek appearance. So we've put together a step-by-step guide to help you re-size your sheets effectively.
What you will need
To get going you'll first need to gather your equipment together
- Either a fine-toothed handsaw or jigsaw
- Clamps
- Tape Measure
- Straight Edge
- Safety Goggles and gloves
- Pencil
- Additional breather/ filter tape
Method
1. Measure out the size of polycarbonate sheet you require and using the straight edge, mark out the lines to be cut.
2. Place the sheet on a stable surface and clamp down. Polycarbonate sheets can be relatively fragile so we recommend to use a timber block to cushion the impact of the clamp.
3. Begin cutting. Polycarbonate is a material that is very easy to cut so you won't need to worry about splintering or cracking- just let the blade do all the work.
4. When you've finished, firmly tap the sheet to remove any excess debris.
5. Peel back the protective film and apply the breather
